Snohomish County Sheriff’s Deputies Test Out Body Cameras (Click Here)

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office announced on September 2, 2021, that some deputies would soon begin wearing and testing police body cameras. The body cameras will be worn during a six week test program. Deputies in the Violent Offender Task Force, Patrol division, and Motorcycle unit will wear the cameras.

More than 60 % of Washington state police departments do not use body cameras. But that is now changing after the May 2020 police killing of George Floyd and other fatal police shootings nationwide.

Police body cameras and patrol dashboard cameras are very useful police tools, especially in riot control and DUI traffic offense enforcement. They can help build strong police cases. But they can also be used to hold police accountable. Body cameras show police misconduct. And evidence of a suspect’s innocence.

Hopefully all Washington state police will eventually employ body cameras and patrol car dashboard cameras in all interactions with the public. It will help police and protect the innocent.
