NEW INCREASED WASHINGTON STATE PATROL ENFORCEMENT OF HOV LANE AND CARPOOL VIOLATIONS (Click Here)
The Washington State Patrol recently announced increased patrol emphasis to reduce High Occupancy (HOV) carpool lane violations on all Washington State highways.
A RCW 46.61.165 (HOV Lane Violation) traffic infraction ticket is considered a "moving violation" under Washington law. As such, it goes on a driving record for 5 years and can raise driver car insurance $ rates.
A first HOV lane ticket carries a $186.00 penalty. A second HOV lane ticket within 2 years carries a $336.00 penalty. If a driver uses a fake passenger (a mannequin or stuffed clothes with a mask) in a HOV lane, an additional $200.00 penalty will be added.
