Ignition Interlock Device Information
A breath alcohol Ignition Interlock (IID) is attached to the ignition of a vehicle to prevent it from being operated by a person who has recently been drinking alcohol.
When properly installed and calibrated, the IID will prevent a drinking driver from starting a vehicle if the IID detects alcohol in the driver’s breath.
An IID requirement is one of the mandatory requirements for a DUI sentence. The IID requirement for the 1st DUI sentence is 1 year. And 5 years for a 2nd DUI sentence. For a 3rd DUI sentence, its 10 years.
